SSC CGL Exam – All you need to know

SSC CGL (Combined Graduate Level) exam is a national level online exam conducted by Staff Selection Commission of India. As the name suggests, it is an exam conducted for the graduate level candidates to get appointed for ‘Group B’ and ‘Group C’ posts under various ministries and departments of the Government of India.

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria

There are 4 important criteria that a candidate must fulfill in order to be eligible for the SSC CGL 2022. The 4 parameters are given below:

  • Citizenship: The candidate must be a Citizen of either India or Nepal or Bhutan. If a candidate is a citizen of Nepal or Bhutan shall have a Certificate of Eligibility issued by the Government of India in favour of him/her.
  • Age Limit (as on 01/01/2022): There are different sets of age limits for different posts in the SSC CGL Exam 2022, which are mentioned below:

  • Educational Qualification (as on 23/01/2022): The educational qualifications varies according to the post for SSC CGL 2022 and is listed below:

  • Physical Fitness Requirements: Apart from the above, there are certain requisite Physical Standards for Inspector (Central Excise/ Examiner/Preventive Officer), Sub-Inspector in CBI (Central Bureau ofInvestigation) and Sub-Inspector in NIA (National Investigation Agency).

SSC CGL Exam Pattern

The Staff Selection Commission of India will be conducting SSC CGL 2022 Exam in four stages: Tier-1, Tier-2, Tier-3 & Tier-4 exam. While Tier-I & Tier-II exams will be conducted online, Tier-III will be a pen and paper-based exam and Tier-IV will be a computer skill test. Let’s have a look at the exam pattern for all these stages of SSC CGL 2021-22 Recruitment process one by one.

Candidates must note that the score for SSC CGL Tier-I & Tier-II Exam will be normalised if it is conducted in multiple shifts. The normalisation score will be decided by SSC and it will be considered final for selecting candidates for the further rounds (Tier-III & Tier-IV) of the SSC CGL 2022 Exam.

SSC CGL Tier-1 Exam Pattern:

SSC CGL 2022 Tier-1 exam will be conducted online comprising of 4 sections with about a 100 questions in total and with maximum marks of 200. The entire exam is needed to be completed in a time span of 60 minutes.

The sections asked in SSC CGL Tier-I Exam are:

Penalty of Wrong Answer: There is a negative marking of 0.50 Marks for each wrong answer. There is no sectional cut off. No point will be deducted if the question is left blank or unattempted by a candidate.

SSC CGL Tier-2 Exam Pattern:

SSC CGL Tier-2 exam will be conducted online comprising of 4 papers with about a 100 questions in Quantitative Ability, Statistics, General Studies (Finance and Economics) & 200 questions in English Language and Comprehension Papers and with maximum marks of 200 for reach papers.

The papers asked in SSC CGL Tier-II Exam are:

Penalty of Wrong Answer: There is a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in Paper-II (English Language and Comprehension) and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I, Paper-III and Paper-IV.

SSC CGL Tier-3 Exam Pattern:

Tier-3 of SSC CGL will be a descriptive test. The paper will be in English/Hindi and will constitute of 100 marks. The entire paper needs to be completed in 60 minutes.

SSC CGL Tier-4 Exam Pattern:

SSC CGL Tier-4 Exam is a Computer Skill Test. It will be conducted in two steps: DEST Test & CPT Test.

DEST: Candidates are required to type 2000 words in 15 minutes on a computer in English. This test is conducted to check a candidate’s writing skills.

CPT: This test is conducted to check a candidate’s proficiency in Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Generation of Slides.
