Graduation in Engineering

JEE (Main)

Purpose : Admission to undergraduate Engineering and architecture courses in 31 NITs, 25 IIITs and 26 GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutions). Also serves as a preliminary selection for JEE-Advanced.

Joint Entrance Examination – Main (JEE-Main), formerly All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), is an Indian standardised computer-based test for admission to various technical undergraduate programs in engineeringarchitecture, and planning across colleges in India.

The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) to the NTA from 2019 onwards.

The Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main) comprises two papers. Paper 1 is conducted for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs (B.E/B.Tech) at National Institutes of Technology and Indian Institutes of Information Technology and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), Institutions/Universities funded/recognized by participating State Governments. JEE (Main) is also an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced), which is conducted for admission to IITs. Paper 2 is conducted for admission to B. Arch and B. Planning courses in the Country. It is usually conducted twice every year.

Knowledge / Skills Tested: Paper 1 : Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics

Paper 2 : For (B. Arch only) Mathematics, Aptitude, Drawing and Planning

The JEE (Main) – 2022 will be conducted in 02 (two) sessions for admissions in the academic session 2022-23. The candidates will thus benefit in the following ways:

  • This will give two opportunities to the candidates to improve their scores in the examination if they are not able to give their best in one attempt.
  • In the first attempt, the students will get a first-hand experience of taking an examination and will know their mistakes which they can improve while attempting for the second time.
  • This will reduce the chances of dropping a year and droppers would not have to waste an entire year.
  • If anyone missed the examination due to reasons beyond control (such as the Board examination), then he/she will not have to wait for one entire year.
  • A candidate need not appear in both Sessions. However, if a candidate appears in more than one Session then his/her best of the JEE (Main) – 2022 NTA Scores will be considered for preparation of Merit List/ Ranking.

JEE (Advanced )

Admission to undergraduate Engineering, Science and Architecture courses in 23 IITs.

Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced (JEE-Advanced) (formerly the Indian Institute of Technology – Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE)), is an academic examination held annually in India. It is organised by one of the seven zonal IITs (IIT RoorkeeIIT KharagpurIIT DelhiIIT KanpurIIT BombayIIT Madras, and IIT Guwahati) under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB) on a round-robin rotation pattern for the qualifying candidates of the JEE-Main (exempted for Foreign Candidates). It was used to be the sole prerequisite for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology bachelor’s programs before the introduction of UCEED, Online BSc and Olympiad entry but seats through these new mediums are very low.

Other universities—such as the Marine Engineering and Research InstituteIndian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, the Indian Institute of Space Technology (IIST), the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISERs), and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) — use the score obtained on the JEE-Advanced exam as the basis for admission. The JEE-Advanced score is also used as a possible basis for admission by Indian applicants to non-Indian universities such as the University of Cambridge and National University of Singapore.
